Letters to Sweet Scarlett

"You call me out upon the waters The great unknown, where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery In oceans deep, my faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours, and You are mine
Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hand will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed, and You won't start now
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior"
Oceans by Hillsong United

O my sweet girl I have been obsessed with this picture the last few days, I think for two reasons the first is you look so tiny next to the huge Ocean (what I wouldn't give to keep you this small) and two it reminds me of my favorite worship song right now by Hillsong which in turn reminds me of one of my favorite Bible stories.

Peter and the disciples were on a boat when a huge storm begins, the waves are crashing against the side of the boat and I could only imagine how afraid they were.  All of a sudden Jesus is walking toward them but they all think he is a ghost and cry out in fear.  Jesus says to them "take courage it is I,  do not be afraid".  Peter than says "Lord if it is you tell me to step out of the boat and come to you".  Jesus does and Peter takes a step onto the water but starts to doubt and becomes afraid.  He realizes that humans do not walk on water Peter was a fisherman, He knew logically he could not walk on water, so he begins to sink.  Peter starts to yell "Lord Save Me"; Jesus reaches down, picks him up and says "you of little faith why did you doubt?" Once they get back to the boat the wind stops and all 12 of the disciples start to worship God "Truly you are the son of God.  I love this story,  I love that even though Peter I'm sure was embarrassed because he failed, he sunk, still worshipped God.  He didn't try to dry himself first - soaking wet he worshipped.  you know what else I love is that the other disciples didn't point out Peters failure - they not once said "Dude that was so embarrassing I cannot believe you did that" they worshipped right next to soaking wet Peter. Sweet girl you will fail sometimes, you will make mistakes in this life but we serve a God who lets us worship him "soaking wet", He came to save those who were sinking.

You are going to face a lot of unknowns in this life, some will be so small in the large scheme of things (but at the time will seem huge) others will be much bigger.  I don't think God will call you too literally walk on water but sometimes it may feel like it, When we moved from Albuquerque there were plenty of unkowns and I was scared I would just down right hate it out here.  But I put my faith in God knowing he had our future in His hands. So I stepped out of the boat out of what I knew.  This move was my "walk on the water" sometimes I feel like I am sinking, I miss our family, friends and our church, the comfort of the boat. I feel overwhelmed with just everyday life; sometimes I doubt that moving was the best thing for our little family - than 6:00 rolls around and your daddy walks through the door and all that doubt is gone.  Your whole face lights up with just pure Joy and in that moment I'm reminded that I would move anywhere if that meant I could see that look on your face everyday.

I feel like this might be an all over the place letter to you but to sum it up - don't be afraid of getting out of the comfort of the boat, but if you do lose sight and sink don't be ashamed to go to God soaking wet.  Also, when others around you fail don't point it out don't make them feel more embarrassed or ashamed than they already do.  I hope you show them love and compassion; it's life we all fall short, we all make mistakes - it's what we do after the mistake that makes us who we are.

Remember I love you Always,

Mama

Letters to Sweet Scarlett

Hey Sweet Girl, you are now a year old!!! Crazy how fast this past year went I swear just yesterday you were this small  now you run around like a toddler. This Mamma thing is hard work - how can one at the same time ache for the past, be excited for the present but cannot wait for the future and all that it entails. It makes my heart hurt that's for sure.   This is not a typical letter that I have written you - I am not going to give life lessons or inspiring words of wisdom.  I just simply want to say that I feel beyond blessed to call  you my daughter and that I love you a little more everyday.

Remember I love always,

Mamma

Letters to Sweet Scarlett

"We Keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney

Hey sweet girl you are one curious baby nowadays -whether it's wanting to know what Mamma and Dadee keep in that kitchen cabinet that we never let you play in or what will happen if you turn your cup upside down. Always wanting to learn something new.  Once you master something you quickly move on to the next thing.  I love watching you learn things, I love teaching you things; I'm getting ready for the "why" stage already because I know when it hits I am going to be answering a ton of questions ALL day.  Google will be my best friend during that time.

I look at you and you are so small but sometimes you act so big.... I watched you the other day trying to put your shoes on, you knew that they needed to be on your feet but you couldn't get them to stay on (this ended in frustration and in tears - we will work on that).  Seriously should you already know that your shoes go on your feet?!?!  You haven't mastered this skill yet but I do keep a pair of shoes in the living for you to practice; mostly because when you do get  one of your shoes on you look at me with the most amazing face - its your "do you see how awesome I am face" and it brings joy to my heart.

Happy 11 months Sweet Scarlett

Remember I love you. Always

Letters to Sweet Scarlett

My Sweet Scarlett you are turning 10 months,  a lot has changed in the past few months.  We have moved miles and miles away from home to make a new home.  Daddy took a job so he could spend more time with you and me; and I am so happy he did.  With that new job came a lot of change... and you have been such a champ about it.  This past month we moved into our new house, and it didn't even bother you one bit. I for sure thought that first night in your new room was going to be full of tears, but we kissed you goodnight, put you in bed and you were out. I was so proud of you.

In life Change is inevitable, you cannot avoid it.  Things change everyday, technology is changing, medicine is changing, people are learning new ways to do things (better ways to do things).  Some people cannot handle change,  it sends them in a huge panic when they have to learn something new.  I hope and pray your attitude towards change never changes (ha ha) but Seriously sweet girl.  You should never fear change, whether its a new house, a new city, our a new school embrace that change. Think of all the new people you wouldn't have met otherwise.  All the new friends you will make, the new things you will see and learn.

You can also be the reason things change, you changed your daddy and I's world when we found out we were expecting a little bundle of joy. You changed my heart forever when I felt you kick the first time, and again when I held you for the first time.   I look at you and your sweet personality and you already have such a drive in you (Example: Walking - you were determined to walk this past month), I know without a doubt you will change the world around you, I see it and I believe it.  I'm thankful that God has allowed your daddy and I to care for you, teach you of His ways, Love you, and Encourage you.  So one day you can be the light that this world needs to change.   I see a strong woman in you Scarlett, and I'm so excited to see what amazing things you will do in this life!

Thankful I get to be apart of it.

Happy 10 months Sweet Scarlett

Remember I love you. Always

Mamma

P.S. Ten month pictures were taken with a bowl of cheerios in front of you, taking your pictures are becoming harder to do without daddy around and using a fixed lens (I guess I better bring out my lens that zooms in and out).

Letters to Sweet Scarlett

My sweet Scarlett you are turning 9 months and it is so surreal.  I can’t believe that 9 months ago you were placed in my arms for the first time.  I feel so blessed to be your mama, I must have done something right for God to trust me with such a special girl.    You have changed so much since that sweet day you decided to show your beautiful face. At almost 9 months old… “Da-de” comes from your sweet lips the most, you’re all about him these days,  you’re cruising along furniture like a pro, standing all by yourself, crawling fast, you’re not a fan of baby food and now just eat what daddy and I are eating.

Scarlett you bring such joy to our little family. I can’t imagine life without you in it.  Thank you for letting me see things through your eyes… everything is new and exciting  to you.  The blizzard that just hit us was too tempting, so daddy and I bundled you up and took a stroll to the park.  I loved watching your eyes as you watched the snowflakes hit the ground, or tasting snow for the first time.  I also loved watching your daddy and you together…. there is nothing sweeter than seeing you with him.  I never thought I could love your daddy anymore than I already do but everyday you prove me wrong, because everyday I love him a little bit more than the day before.

I write you this 9 month letter while You’re in my arms, my favorite feeding time… first thing in the morning,  Usually it is dark out but lately the sun has been rising a little bit early, I wish I could say that you are sleeping in longer; I guess I can’t complain you wake up at 7:30. The morning nursing session has by far become one of my favorite times with you, I go and get you from your bed and we climb back into Da- De and Mamas bed and get cozy under some blankets.  You are so snugly in the morning, most of the other times you barely sit still long enough to eat.  Right now You are cozy in your pink and white polk a dot footy pajamas, and they’re dangling off my lap.  when did you get so big??? slow down a bit, pretty pretty please?  There are things that I will miss terribly and this time with you is definitely on the list.

Happy 9 month my sweet girl!

Remember I love you. Always
